Congrats, Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup!

For the past two years, our candidate to the Miss Universe beauty pageant made it to the final 5, among the 80+ beauties all over the world. It is an accomplishment in itself.

Miss Universe is considered the World Cup of beauty pageants. Once in the top 5, it is the question-and-answer portion that decides which candidate gets it. This year’s Miss Philippines is Ms. Shamcey Supsup. When I heard Shamcey’s answer, I somewhat knew that she would not bagged the crown. Somewhat, I (and my daughter) was confused of her answer. It is probably because of the redundancy of words and the usage of the pronoun “he-she”. The erroneous usage of he-she (and his-her) is common among  Filipinos in speaking English. In fact, I am guilty of this. Whether Shamcey said “…she’d love my God too” or not, she is still a winner. Congrats!

Officially In Love With Manny Pacquiao

The “replay” button of this Youtube video, Sometimes When We Touch sung by Manny Pacquiao and Dan Hill , must have cried foul on me for repeatedly hitting it for so many times. Even my daughter complained about it. The thing is – I am not really a Manny Pacquiao fan. I have not seen any of his boxing fights. I am never interested. I only see clips of it when I watch Filipino news. This guy is definitely a newsmaker. Go figure.

Anyway, back to this video….it gives me chills listening to it. I see Manny Pacquiao in a different light. He is utterly romantic (and handsome…love the eyes). Let us face it, the man does not really have a diction like any other Filipino singers out there. But really, this video must have captured so many ladies’ hearts. Man, I am officially in love with the PacMan. Sshh….don’t tell my husband. 🙂 Besides, he remains the one.

How to track your Umac Express Balikbayan Box

It is no brainer, really. But I just want to share what I dug from my gazillion clicking of links. Balikbayan box, anyone? Yes, yes, it is a very popular term for Filipino overseas. Even old stuff we got from the thrift stores, we send it to the Philippines anyway. If you are using Umac Express Cargo, you are in luck!  This post is intended for that. Again, no brainer. Instead of waiting for the next business day or hour to call a Umac’s Office, use your computer and your Internet connection. It easy and convenient.

1. Visit this link – http://www.forexcargouk.com/search/index.html. This works for Balikbayan boxes originating from Canada, USA, London, Italy, Bahrain, Hongkong, Korea, Macau, Greece, Spain, New Zealand and Singapore

2. Click the “Track Your Box” tab located at the top of the page.

3. Type the Invoice Tracking Number inside the (color grey) blank after the word “GO”.

4. Click “GO’.

5. The results will be displayed at the lower portion of the same page.  If you find any discrepancy in the information, especially the destination or consignee address, better call your local Umac’s Office (Read: not the agent).

Start sending some “love” to the Philippines.

Filipina Fiancee Swallowed By The Sea In Oregon, US

Life is full of surprises. Just when you think that it is so kind to you, in an instant, it can be mean . This is probably what a 45-year old American in Oregon, who was about to wed his Filipina fiancee of two years, feels right now. A fairy tale romance and a wonderful loving woman — everything a man could ask for. However, his life became sour because of an unforeseen event.  READ MORE.

First Pinoy Idol: Gretchen Espina

The finale of Pinoy Idol left me confused. It has been a week since the much-awaited night, but up until now, I wonder on what criteria they chose the big winner with. Is it based on text or the Judges’ votes? I have nothing against Gretchen Espina. She is a good singer, even if the judges were mean to her in their comments. By the way, congrats to Gretchen for bagging the title of first-ever Pinoy Idol. She proves to be not just another spoiled rich kid in the biz. She got talent.

Actually, my bet was Ram Chaves, but since he is already a renowned local band vocalist, I think that that it is just right to give others the chance to fame. In fact, he had a couple of talent shows under his belt As far as I could remember, they were —Stars In A Million (the season wherein Frenchie Dy won) and Pinoy Pop Superstar Season 1. Sad to note, he was not able to make it to the finale. Basically, Pinoy Idol made him big.

Sometimes, these reality TV talent search has becoming unreliable. Obviously, the text votes drive a lot of profit for the show. People do not vote because of talent, but because of relation or other personal biases. You can not say that, it is purely popularity. I am sure, most of the contestants spent so much money on buying phone loads to vote. I hope that, one day —voting will be based on phone number, and that a certain number can only vote once in every voting cycle.
